Ayanna Davis is a passionate advocate for emergent bilingual students in Houston, Texas. After beginning a second career as an educator, she earned a Masters degree in Teacher Leadership with a designation in ESL from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. She has been an educator for over 20 years and has experience working with grades 6 through adult education. She has taught English Language Arts in various settings including, sheltered English as a Second Language, New Arrivals, and mixed populations including General Ed. Special Ed., and GT students. She strives to build student ownership by creating a culturally responsive environment where students’ cultures, languages, and life experiences are acknowledged, validated, and celebrated. She believes that students should feel valued, challenged and supported in order to maximize their growth. Currently she is the Multilingual Program Director for Professional Learning and Instructional Supports for Secondary Schools, in Aldine ISD, where she shares her passion and knowledge for Emergent Bilingual students throughout the district.
