Dr. Wayne E. Wright is the Associate Dean for Research, Graduate Programs, and Faculty Development and the Barbara I. Cook Chair of Literacy and Language in the College of Education at Purdue University. He is the co-principal investigator on over $9M in federal grants from the U.S. Department of Education focused on improving ELL and bilingual education in the state of Indiana. Dr. Wright is a former ESL and bilingual teacher in Long Beach, California, where he helped establish one of the first Cambodian bilingual programs in the country. He is a former Fulbright Scholar, and has extensive experience in Cambodia where he has taught ESL, provided graduate training for Cambodian educators, and conducted research on multilingual mother-tongue education and other language and education related issues. Dr. Wright serves as the co-editor of the Journal of Language, Identity, and Education, as the Editor of the Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement, and as the Co-Editor of the Bilingual Education and Bilingualism book series published by Multilingual Matters. He is author of 7 books, including two best-selling textbooks: Foundations for Teaching English Language Learners: Research Theory, Policy, and Practice (Brookes Publishing), and Foundations of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism, co-authored with Colin Baker (Multilingual Matters). He is Co-Editor (with Sovicheth Boun and Ofelia García) of the Handbook of Bilingual and Multilingual Education (Wiley). His most recent book is Innovating the TESOL Practicum in Teacher Education: Design, Implementation, and Pedagogy in an Era of Change, co-edited with Chang Pu (Routledge).
