Juan A. Freire, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the department of Teacher Education at Brigham Young University. He worked for several years as an elementary school teacher, both in Spain and in a Spanish-English dual language bilingual program at an urban school in Utah. His research focuses on equity in dual language bilingual education (DLBE) in the areas of multicultural/bilingual teacher research and the analysis of DLBE policy, planning, and programming. He has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, is a co-editor of “Overcoming the Gentrification of Dual Language, Bilingual and Immersion Education: Solution-Oriented Research and Stakeholder Resources for Real Integration” (Multilingual Matters, 2024), and is the lead editor of “The Handbook of Dual Language Bilingual Education” (Routledge, 2024).
