English with Spanish connections for translanguaging demonstrationsDescription
Students in dual language education have many superpowers, and their teachers are there to help them to develop these skills. One power that students do naturally is translanguaging. Students are constantly making connections between their first and second language, but this is not always taught as an asset. While previous thought said that separation of languages is key in dual language zones, this is no longer the case. This session focuses on why teachers should teach students to translanguage and different ways they can help students develop this superpower during their instruction.
