Description
This session presents a transformative cross-state bilingual PenPal project linking dual language classrooms in Texas and California. Serving as a catalyst for authentic biliteracy and sociocultural competence, the project empowers students through monthly Spanish letter exchanges that cultivate writing fluency, identity, and profound intercultural awareness. Presenters share the strategic design, curriculum integration, compelling student work, and measurable outcomes that illustrate how authentic communication fosters academic growth and socio-emotional growth. Attendees acquire practical tools, scaffolds, and adaptable resources—via mail or digital platforms—to initiate impactful PenPal exchanges that build meaningful connections, elevate student voice, and activate bilingual skills in authentic contexts.
