In recent years, there have been growing efforts to reframe education research, policy, and practice to cultivate the assets that multilingual learners bring to science learning. Contemporary approaches to science instruction are based on the vision of A Framework for K-12 Science Education (National Research Council, 2012) and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS Lead States, 2013). This workshop highlights (1) contemporary approaches to an asset-oriented view of MLs and (2) how instructional shifts in science learning and language learning are mutually supportive for multilingual learners.
