What can a classroom teacher do to support English learners (ELs) in gifted programming? Participants will learn strategies for building language alongside content to create opportunities for ELs to be included in advanced learning. We will introduce characteristics of gifted ELs and use that knowledge as a starting point to amplify their learning. Participants will go back to their classrooms with specific strategies to build background knowledge and increase academic vocabulary usage through interaction. By understanding the basics of supporting language learning, HA teachers can scaffold for ELs in their journey towards critical and deeper thinking.
