Abstract:
Working in a dual language environment can be challenging. Teaching preschool multilinguals goes beyond "just good teaching". It requires explicit planning and instruction of activities that encourage language development. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of the language and social development of multilingual preschoolers and the implications for classroom practice. Students learning English for the first time need language supports that targets specific language goals that can also be assessed. This session will also give an overview of research and practical strategies and ideas that can be applied in the classroom.
