EnglishDescription
This session focuses on auto-ethnography as a tool to assist teachers of multilingual learners to analyze the impact their cultural identities have on their experiences as learners and as teachers. Upon completion of observation and interview tasks, teachers are required to analyze narrative data, extract themes associated with their sub-cultures, utilize a multi-modal approach to present findings and incorporate secondary sources to develop interpretive narratives. The presenters employ positioning theory to identify central themes based on the auto-ethnographies and represent the dataset as a map. Implications for pre and in-service language teacher education are considered.
