Biography

For five decades, Olsen has been a researcher, writer, policy advocate, designer of demonstration projects, and provider of technical assistance on immigrant and English Learner education preschool through grade 12. Author of dozens of publications and producer of dozens of videos, she has worked with hundreds of school districts to design, implement and evaluate powerful PreK-12th grade English Learner programs. Dr. Olsen co-chaired the statewide process of developing the California English Learner Roadmap policy. A founding board member of Californians Together, she currently serves as President of the coalition. She was also the founder and now serves as Strategic Advisor to SEAL (Sobrato Early Academic Language). Dr. Olsen holds a Ph.D. in Social/Cultural Studies in Education from U.C. Berkeley.
